The Sierra Club’s Rio Grande Chapter stands in strong support of SB489. This bill helps ensures the shut down of the San Juan Coal Plant, saves rate payers money on the remaining amount on the plant and pollution controls, uses the savings to pay for worker and county transitions, requires some replacement energy in the impacted school district and helps develop the up-and-coming New Mexico workforce that will fill the renewables jobs that come to the state as utilities comply with decreasing energy from fossil fuels.
This bill will be heard in the Senate Corporations Committee at the Roundhouse Saturday 3/9 morning at 9am in Room 322. Please attend and call your state senator and the members of the Corporations Committee to show your support.
