Carole Evans passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 31, 2023 at the age of 78.
She was a fascinating woman who was a lifelong learner and lover of the arts. Carole grew up in the Chicago area, but lived her adult life in New Orleans, Santa Fe, and most recently, Albuquerque.
Carole was extremely creative, inquisitive, smart, spirited, and funny. Her education was completed at the University of New Orleans, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Drama and Communications.
After teaching high school English and Media Arts for two decades in New Orleans, Carole moved to New Mexico in the late 1980’s. There she taught at the College of Santa Fe as a full professor in the Moving Image Arts Department for more than 30 years. For two years, Carole served as the vice-president of academic affairs at the college and afterward as an Advisor for Laureate Education.
Carole loved interior design and architecture. As a young woman she studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. After retirement, she revisited that passion by studying design at the Santa Fe Community College. Carole made friends everywhere she taught, learned, and volunteered. Film, art, music and travel were her passions. Family time and travel always included trips to museums, art galleries, and concerts.
Carole had a gorgeous singing voice. She loved spending time walking in nature with her daughter and grandchildren, who named her “Nanno”. Carole took a deep interest in her grandchildren attending all their events and taking them individually to Europe to explore. She was a friend and insightful mentor to her friends and family.
Carole described her best date ever as surprise front row seats to La Boheme at the Santa Fe Opera in 2019. She was full of enthusiasm for life.
Carole is survived by her daughter Allison, her grandchildren Octavian and HanneLore, and her partner, Karuna.
