NM Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has said the she will end efforts of a diversion project on the Gila River, given the “there is little to show for the millions of dollars spent on staff, lawyer and studies.”

As most of you know by now, it was an extraordinarily successful election season for the Sierra Club here in New Mexico.
Decommissioning causes nuclear conundrum
There are approximately 100 uranium-powered plants in the United States. They are located in urban centers near waterways that are used to cool the operation of the power plants. Utility owners and these communities’ elected officials are “decommissioning” aged-out uranium-powered plants. As there is no technology capable of removing radiation, they are looking to ‘store’ the waste in rural areas such as our backyard.
PNM plan to close San Juan on track
The Public Regulation Commission on December 19 moved New Mexico one step closer to a nearly coal-free future. The commission accepted PNM’s “Integrated Resource Plan,” a 20-year plan that outlines PNM’s goal to retire the plant by 2022.
NM: Worst on methane
A new report by the Wilderness Society and Taxpayers for Common Sense provides an analysis of state regulations for managing natural-gas waste across the eight states with federal oil and gas leasing and production. New Mexico is worst on almost all measures.
